Target Audience: Investigators, Police Officers, Crime and Intelligence Analysts, Attorneys
Description:
This comprehensive day-day course provides investigators with a practical, intelligence-driven foundation in identifying, preserving, and analyzing digital evidence in modern criminal investigations. Participants will learn how everyday technology creates a persistent “digital footprint” and how to recognize, collect, and obtain electronically stored information in a manner that meets legal standards. The course covers core concepts including digital evidence admissibility, chain of custody, legal process, and first-responder triage. Through structured instruction and real-world examples, investigators will develop the skills needed to avoid common pitfalls and ensure evidence preservation and integrity from the outset of an investigation.
Building on this foundation, the course explores the primary sources of digital evidence encountered in today’s cases, including mobile devices, cellular carrier records, social media platforms, cloud services, internet service providers, connected vehicles, IoT devices, surveillance systems, and WiFi networks. Participants will gain insight into mobile device extractions, historical and real-time cellular records, social media and cloud data analysis, and advanced attribution techniques used to link accounts, devices, and IP addresses to individuals. Additional modules address OSINT methodologies, evidence preservation strategies, and investigative use of financial, utility, and online service records. By the conclusion of the program, attendees will be equipped with a structured, defensible approach to digital investigations that enhances case development and strengthens prosecution.
