Cellular and Social Media Records in the Exigent Environment (CSEE)

Description:
This 2-day course is perfect for dispatchers, crime analysts, investigators, real-time crime center staff, or other personnel working in an exigent environment. Each day, social media records, pings, and cellular records are obtained in emergency situations. These situations might include barricaded or tactical situations, missing persons, child abductions, or mental health emergencies. Often, the requester does not truly understand exactly what they are requesting, what other information is available, and how to best leverage the data received.
This course will break down each major cellular provider. Each attendee will learn about free resources and software that is available to assist with their analysis. They will also have the opportunity to go hands-on with practical exercises.
The course does not utilize any paid software. It is software agnostic.

Introduction to Cellular Records (ICR)

Description:
This 1-day course is aimed at the entry-level attendee. The course is perfect for any type of investigator, or other personnel, who may come in contact with historical or live cellular records. Many large agencies have dedicated units or personnel who handle all aspects of historical and live cellular records. Many small agencies do not frequently come in contact with historical and live cellular records. Whatever the reason, you should still understand the basics. The attendee will learn the difference between historical and live records, the types of records available, and the basics of an analysis.
The course does not utilize any software for records analysis. It is software agnostic.

This 2-day course will provide a comprehensive review of CellHawk and its features. Attendees will learn how to load records from the major telecommunication providers, and how to use those records to further their investigation. The course has plenty of hands-on instruction and practical exercises.

Level III Courses (Advanced)
Advanced Cellular Records Analysis (ACRA)

Pre-requisites:
• Completion of CTRA, or comparable training and experience with cellular records analysis
• Advanced knowledge of CellHawk
• Working knowledge of NCAC and cell site lists

Description:
This 3-day advanced level course builds upon the information and concepts covered in CTRA. The course takes a higher level approach to technology, network operations, specific provider topics, records analysis, and the use of CellHawk. Attendees will learn how to effectively analyze records, aggregate various types of digital evidence, and prepare a report. This course aims at transitioning the attendee towards courtroom testimony. The course utilizes hands-on practical exercises and requires attendees to complete homework (outside of class).

Important Information:
* In addition to CTRA, attendees should also be fluent in the use of CellHawk, NDCAC, and the use of cell site lists. Extensive prior casework with cellular records analysis and CellHawk is highly recommended.
Attendees are required to bring a Windows laptop with WiFi capability, or other connectivity option. Attendees must have an external mouse, supported web browser, and a full version of Microsoft Excel. Administrator rights , or the ability to install software, is required.
Tower Dumps and Area Searches (TDAS)
CellHawk Certification: N/A
Level: Advanced
Pre-requisites:
• Completion of CTRA, or comparable training and experience with cellular records analysis
• Advanced knowledge of CellHawk
• Working knowledge of NCAC and cell site lists
Cost: $825.00
Description:
This 3-day advanced level course builds upon the information and concepts covered in CTRA. Attendees will learn the legal process and the legal considerations with tower dumps and area searches. Attendees will also learn how to effectively tower dumps and area searches, using CellHawk and addon freeware. The course utilizes hands-on practical exercises.

Cellular Technology, Records, and Analysis (CTRA)

Pre-requisites: CellHawk Basic (CB) recommended, but not required.

Description:
This 3-day intermediate level course was designed to provide the attendee with a basic understanding of how cellular telephones operate, the records they generate, how to obtain them, and how to leverage them in an investigation. The course mixes lecture content with practical exercises to provide the student with plenty of hands-on time analyzing records using CellHawk.
